The 6th grade Knights in Shining Armor team from Horizon Elementary School won the state Creative Pursuits Bowl at South Jordan Middle School on December 1, 2015. They also had one of the highest scores ever on the impromptu brainstorming part of the competition. Each of the five members on the team received a trophy. This was the first time that Murray School District has EVER won on the state level.
At the Bowl, the sixth-graders competed in a three-part challenge:
1. Creating an original museum product that ties into their grade-level curriculum.
2. Writing and performing a skit to highlight their “museum product.”
3. An activity demonstrating the team’s impromptu thinking skills.
Students had to meet guidelines such as using only approved materials, a $10 cost limit and completing within a time period, The more creative they were, the better they scored. Other skills the students needed were social studies, technology, language arts, public speaking, organization, memorization, collaboration, science, flexibility, time, dedication, originality and teamwork. This outstanding team is under the direction of Merissa Graves.
