The Foundations of Society.
Students will study and analyze America Culture as well as others from the sociological perspective.† Students will learn the symbols of culture, diversity, multiculturalism as well as Global Culture.† Understanding the various theories of cultural analysis.
Chpt. 4 Society
Comparing different societies through the centuries and decades.† Discussing society and conflict, Karl Marx, Capitalism, class conflict, alienation and revolution.
Each student will bring a Culture bag with three items that reflect their personal culture.† Culture Poster will reflect American Culture in comparison with another country.
Students create a poster indicating the characteristics of each society.† They then present to the class.† Class discussion about the differences and similarities through the ages.†
Students will be given points if they complete the assignment on time.† They will be graded on the quality of their poster that they will present to the class as well.†
Students will be given points for participation in the class discussion.
Students will read in small groups and relay information to the class and receive points for doing so.†
Individual reading at home for quizzes.† 5 questions worth 2 points each.
Students will be graded on the quality of the presentation. †

We will discuss each psychologist separately and I will give them additional information about these men that is not in the chapter.
Students will make a chart comparing the development of peopleís personality through the ages.
Students will take a few personality assessments to better understand their own personality.† They will also be asked to write a few papers about how they feel other peopleís perception of them impacts their own self image.†
Chpt. 6 Students will create a chart of themselves and will write down all the roles that they currently have in their lives.† They will also explore conflicts they have with some of those roles.
Chpt. 7† Students will do an assignment where they write down every group that they currently belong to and their position in the hierarchy.
We will do a lesson on the hierarchy and their position in their family, school, job.
Points are given to the students when they meet the deadlines of having dances taught and cleaned.
Written Assessment for every chapter is a written multiple choice test.† There will be quizzes with each chapter as well.†

Class Discussion about what we deem deviant behavior in our society.† Why does society need deviant behavior according to sociology pioneers.† Students will have the opportunity to share their opinions on the topic of capital punishment, the pros and cons.† We will also discuss some of the high profile cases on Utah, Ted Bundy and the Hi Fi Murders.
Students will watch a video about the 1960ís and see how race relations have improved in the last 50 years.† We will also examine prejudice and discrimination in our own lives.† Students will need to memorize all the terms of the chapter which will be a separate quiz.†
Students will take notes on several things to do with family.† I will give them information about different tools that mental health professionals use to help to get to know a family and the dynamics of it better.†
Chpt. 8 Students will have 3† reading quizzes on this chapter.† They will do some research on their own about capitol punishment and the death penalty in other states and other countries.† We will look up data to see if the death penalty is a deterrent to serious crime.† Students will be graded on these papers.
Students will have a written test on the chapter.† They will also have quizzes and daily assignments they will receive points for.†
Besides the test and quizzes the students will have extra credit opportunities if they want to do things like the Genogram or Family Constellation.† They will also be able to do a paper on their placement among their siblings if they choose.†

Function of Schools
We will spend a day in the library and the students will find a book about a religion they would like to find out more about.† They will then present 2 minutes of information about the religion that they wrote about.† We will play religion bingo in an effort to learn what makes each religion unique from others.
We will also spend time talking about cults and differences between a cult and religion.† We will discuss the more note worthy cults in the U.S. in recent years.†

We do this chapter now just as the Legislature is going into session in Utah.† Every day we will keep track of bills that are being debated in our own state as we learn about politics and government in general.
Chpt. 21 Students will be asked to read a page and then share the information with the class.
I will provide current information about eating disorders, the students will take notes and this will be included on their test.
I will bring the newspaper every day as we discuss what bills are being debated.† Students will be allowed to weigh in with their opinions as well.
Assessment will be test and quizzes plus a 2 page report on any health issue in the U.S. that is of interest to the students.

The will also receive points on papers that they will write on a current law in Utah that they have strong feelings on.
