MurrE-QUOTE:

"Let peace begin with me,
let this be the moment now.
With every step I take,
let this be my solemn vow,

To take each moment
and live each moment,
in peace, eternally.

Let there be Peace on Earth,
and let it begin with me.”

– Words and Music by Jill Jackson
and Sy Miller, circa 1955

Special Education At Risk Programs
During each school year, specialized instruction and related services are provided to eligible Murray students as defined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Students determined in the following disability categories may be eligible for specialized instruction and related services:

  • Autism
  • Deaf/Blind
  • Developmental disability
  • Emotional disturbance
  • Hearing impairment
  • Intellectual disability
  • Multiple disability
  • Orthopedic impairment
  • Other health impairment
  • Specific learning disability
  • Speech/language disability
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Visual impairment

Each Murray City School District school has a Student Staff Support Team (SSST). Any child experiencing academic difficulty can be referred to the SSST for consideration of accommodations to meet his or her individual learning needs, which may include evaluation for special education services. A team of qualified professionals comprised of special education teachers, speech and language pathologists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, vision specialist, behavior specialist, occupational therapists, nurses and transition specialists serve students in Murray schools. When determined appropriate, physical therapy is provided by contract through other agencies.

For more information about these programs, contact At Risk Director Dr. Wendy Bills at the district offices, 801-264-7400, wbills@murrayschools.org; or Lisa Adair, department administrative assistant, ladair@murrayschools.org.
