As National Volunteer Week has just concluded, we want to take a moment to express our profound gratitude for the hundreds of remarkable parent and family volunteers who are the very heart of the Murray City School District. Throughout the past week, and indeed throughout the entire year, we’ve reflected on the extraordinary contributions made within each of our schools, through the tireless efforts of our PTAs, and via the unwavering support of the Murray Education Foundation. Your dedication, totaling thousands of hours annually, creates a richer and more supportive learning environment for every student.
Nationwide, the impact of volunteers is undeniable. In 2021, over 60 million adults across the United States stepped forward to volunteer, contributing billions of hours to causes close to their hearts. With the estimated value of a volunteer hour reaching $34.79 in 2024, the economic impact is substantial.
Here in Murray, however, the true value of our volunteers lies in the direct positive influence on our students. In classrooms, parents offer invaluable assistance to teachers, provide crucial individual support, and share diverse talents that enrich the curriculum. Our PTAs, powered by volunteers, orchestrate engaging activities, raise vital funds for school initiatives, and cultivate a strong sense of belonging. The Murray Education Foundation relies heavily on volunteer support to achieve its mission of providing empowering resources and opportunities for our students and educators.
The impact is clear: children with actively involved parents consistently demonstrate greater academic success, stronger social skills, and a more positive outlook on their education.
