May 1 is National Principals Day, and here in the Murray City School District, we’re proud to recognize the dedicated school leaders who guide our students, support our staff, and foster thriving learning environments every day. Principals are more than administrators—they are instructional leaders, student advocates, problem solvers, and the heart of each school community.

Across the country, research has shown that effective principals are second only to teachers in influencing student achievement. According to the Wallace Foundation, a high-quality principal can impact student performance more than any other factor outside the classroom. A 2021 study found that replacing a below-average principal with an above-average one can result in nearly three additional months of learning per year for students.

In Murray City School District, our principals serve in roles that go far beyond managing day-to-day operations. They cultivate safe, inclusive school cultures, support professional development for teachers, and maintain strong communication with families. Each school leader works tirelessly to align resources with student needs, ensuring that every child is seen, supported, and challenged.

This year, we thank all our principals—at our seven elementary schools, two junior highs, and Murray High School—for their unwavering commitment to educational excellence. Your leadership, especially in ever-changing times, is deeply appreciated.

Let’s take a moment today to celebrate and thank the principals who make a difference in Murray. Their work shapes not just schools, but the future of our entire community.
