Murray City School District is excited to announce Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) at Grant, Longview, McMillan, and Viewmont Elementary Schools. This is an opt-in program and is being funded by House Bill 193.
Our test-in Optional Extended Kindergarten (OEK) program at our Title One Schools (Horizon, Liberty, and Parkside) will still continue. Placement in the OEK program is based on KEEP Entry testing that is given in August.
What Full-Time Kindergarten will offer your child:
- High-quality school readiness program
- Gives more time for teachers to elaborate on each skill
- Unhurried setting
- More opportunities for individualized assessment
- More opportunities for child-initiated activities
- Language development and emergent literacy experiences
- A balance between large groups and small group activities
- Development of children’s social skills, including conflict resolution
- Same bell schedule as grades 1-6 (8:30 am – 3:15 pm)
