spelling bee winners

The Murray PTA hosted its highly anticipated 2025 Spelling Bee, bringing together 21 talented students from Murray schools to compete in a challenging display of spelling mastery. Held at Hillcrest Jr. High, the event lasted 90 minutes and spanned 20 rounds of progressively tricky words at the 8th-grade level.

After fierce competition, three exceptional spellers emerged as the top finalists. Preslee Andrews of Viewmont Elementary claimed first place, earning a $100 prize for her outstanding performance. Owen McCarty of Horizon Elementary secured second place, taking home $50. Evie Nielsen finished in third place, winning $25 for her impressive efforts.

The event showcased all participants’ hard work and dedication, who demonstrated remarkable poise under pressure. Parents, teachers, and classmates filled the audience, cheering on the competitors as they tackled increasingly difficult words.

Huge thanks to Murray PTA (especially Jodi Mismash and Becca Westenskow) for another outstanding opportunity to inspire students. And congratulations to all participants for their hard work and a special shoutout to Preslee, Owen, and Evie for their outstanding performances!
