parents and child meeting with teacherMurray High School and Riverview and Hillcrest Jr. Highs will hold Parent/Teacher Conferences (PTC) next week, with MHS leading things off on Tuesday the 20th, while both junior highs will be held on the 20th and 21st.

All MCSD elementary schools will hold their PTCs the following week, September 28 and 29.

Check with your student’s school(s) and/or teacher(s) for specific times and instructions.

PTCs are short, 1:1 meetings between you and your child’s teacher(s) to discuss academic progress, behavior, and overall experience at school. They are invaluable communication tools for all involved and directly correlate with student success.

Making PTC Productive

Translation Services: MCSD uses Propio Services to provide translation to facilitate a productive meeting. Please coordinate with your student(s) teacher(s) if you need this support. The service is available on-demand and supports over 300 languages.

Cannot Attend: If a parent cannot attend, arrangements can be made to ensure this crucial coordination happens.

Preparing for PTC: It’s good to come prepared. Below are ways to engage your child in preparation for PTC. Ask your child:

  • How they feel about school;
  • What they feel are their strongest and weakest subjects;
  • How they feel about their relationships with their teacher and peers (do they feel supported and welcomed?);
  • Review your child’s grades, scores, and attendance on Aspire (for secondary) and in Illuminate (for elementary). For all students, check Aspire, ensure your contact information is current;
  • Make a list of questions you have for your student(s) teacher(s); feel free to share information about your child that will help the teacher connect with them;
  • If you need extended time, please email or call your student’s teacher to schedule an appointment.

MCSD will be holding additional PTCs in mid-February. However, please communicate regularly with your student(s) and teacher(s) throughout the school year. Success in school is not the same for everyone, but all need to feel supported in developing a lifetime love for learning.
