As the final bell rang for the 2024-2025 school year, there was an undeniable buzz of joy and accomplishment throughout the Murray City School District. From bustling classrooms to vibrant community events, this year has been a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit that makes our district truly special. We made it, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything we’ve achieved together!
This year, guided by our theme, “Building Our Future Now,” we’ve witnessed incredible moments of student success, innovative programs, and unwavering support from our entire Murray family.
Highlights from a Remarkable Year:
- Academic Excellence Shines Bright: Our students continue to impress! We celebrated young scientists from across the district as Murray students shined at the State Science Fair in March, earning multiple awards and recognitions for their innovative research. From Riverview Jr. High’s 9th-grade biology students teaming up with Viewmont Elementary’s 3rd graders for an exciting Trout Release Celebration in May, hands-on learning has truly come to life.
- Enriching Opportunities Beyond the Classroom: The Kennecott Nature Center continued its two-decade tradition of providing unparalleled outdoor education, offering unique biological science learning and integrating creative writing, art, and photography experiences for thousands of our students. We’re also proud of our ongoing efforts in using technology to bridge the language divide for our ESL students, ensuring every learner feels supported and understood.
- Cultivating Strong Communities: This spring, we held our first-ever Sources of Strength Celebration, bringing students and the community together to highlight impactful work in mental well-being and connection. It was a powerful reminder of the strength we find in unity.
- Honoring Our Dedicated Staff: We took time to recognize the incredible individuals who make our schools thrive, celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week and National Principals Day. We also had the privilege of honoring our outstanding Teachers, Licensed Professionals, and Education Support professionals of the Year at our May Board Meeting. Their commitment is the bedrock of our success.
- Looking to the Future with Progress: We’ve seen significant strides in our district’s infrastructure, with exciting progress on the bond projects to rebuild Riverview Jr. High and expand Murray High School, with construction officially beginning in June 2025! This investment will provide state-of-the-art learning environments for generations to come. Furthermore, our district’s long-term commitment to sustainability continues to pay off, with MCSD Energy Conservation efforts topping an impressive $5.3 million in savings to date.
- New Leadership and Seamless Transitions: We’re excited to welcome Tyler Horne as the new principal of Longview Elementary, effective July 1, 2025, bringing fresh perspectives and leadership to our elementary ranks.
Looking Ahead to 2025-2026!
While we savor the successes of this year, we’re already looking forward to an even brighter future. Online registration for all returning K-12 students for the 2025-26 school year will begin on Monday, July 28.
