MCSD Partners with Friends for Sight to Offer Free Vision Care for Qualifying Students

In an effort to eliminate vision as a barrier to student learning, the Murray City School District (MCSD) has once again partnered with the non-profit organization Friends for Sight to host the annual Sightfest event. This critical program provides free, professional eye exams and complimentary eyeglasses to eligible students within the district.
Sightfest 2026 is scheduled to take place during the school day on Friday, January 30th, 2026, at the MCSD Office (5102 S. Commerce Drive, Building #1, Murray).
Eligibility for Free Services
The program is specifically designed to support students facing financial and access challenges. A student qualifies to participate in Sightfest if they meet all three of the following criteria:
-
The student failed their recent district vision screening.
-
The student does not have medical insurance or Medicaid coverage for a vision exam or glasses.
-
The student is eligible for the free or reduced lunch program at school.
The invitation also extends to eligible students whose current glasses are lost or broken and require replacement.
The Exam Process
Qualifying students who attend the event will receive a professional eye examination and will have the opportunity to pick out a pair of free eyeglasses, if prescribed. Following the event, the new glasses will be delivered directly to the student's school approximately four to six weeks later.
Registration and Key Deadlines
Parents and guardians interested in this opportunity must sign and return the necessary permission slip by the deadline of Monday, January 12th, 2026. Note for Insured Students
If a student has medical insurance that covers vision, parents are advised to call the phone number on the back of their insurance card for a list of participating eye doctors and benefit information.
Parents who are unable to secure an eye doctor evaluation for their child and require assistance, despite coverage status, are encouraged to contact the district.
