About Superintendent Jennifer Covington:
Jennifer Covington began working for the Murray City School District in 1994 as a business and information technology teacher at Murray High School. She was named assistant principal at Hillcrest Junior High School in 2004, and then principal of that school in 2009. As head of the school, she was very involved during the teardown of the old Hillcrest Junior High (previously Murray High), and the building and opening of the brand new Hillcrest Junior High School at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. Mrs. Covington has also taught as an adjunct professor at Salt Lake Community College, and an instructor for Brigham Young University Independent Study.
A committed educator, Superintendent Covington’s personal educational philosophy is that “Education is an individual, unique experience for every student who enters the classroom. In order for students to benefit from what schools offer, educators must feel supported, encouraged and valued.”
Superintendent Covington was preceded by Steven K. Hirase in this assignment, following his retirement from MCSD at the end of the 2016-17 school year. She began her duties as Superintendent and CEO of the Murray City School District on July 1, 2017.
