Healthy Minds, Stronger Schools: MCSD Announces March Mental Health Event

Understanding a child’s emotional well-being is a practical and supportive step toward their success in school. This March, the Murray City School District (MCSD) is continuing its commitment to student wellness by hosting a Mental Health Screening Day, providing a simple way for parents to check in on their student's progress and resilience.
While these screenings have traditionally been available for students starting in the 3rd grade, the district is pleased to broaden the invitation this year to include all students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. This ensures that families across all grade levels have access to the same tools for highlighting a student's strengths and identifying any areas where they might need a little extra support.
Why Screen for Mental Health?
Much like a routine physical or a vision check, a mental health screening is a proactive way to look at a student's emotional health. These voluntary sessions are designed to be balanced—highlighting a student’s resilience and mental health strengths while also checking for common areas like anxiety, depression, and safety.
The importance of these early check-ins is supported by recent data. According to a 2025 report from the National Center for Education Statistics, over half of all public schools (53%) have seen a rise in students seeking mental health support. Experts note that universal screenings are considered a "best practice" because they help schools identify needs early and tailor support to their specific student population before small challenges become larger hurdles.
