MHS Fire Update... February 20, 12:00 pm

Updated from Friday, February 20 at 12:00 pm
We wanted to thank our Murray Fire Department, Murray City Police Department, Murray High Faculty and Staff and our student body for their tremendous response during todays fire that occurred at Murray High School.
During our first passing period of the day, school administration was alerted that there was a fire in the dust collecting system which is located adjacent to the wood shop room. The school responded immediately and placed our school on an evacuation. The response was quick, as we practice, and all faculty, staff and students were evacuated safety to our football field. We greatly appreciated all who were involved as we arranged plans for students to get back home safety.
Given the nature of the fire and more importantly the cleanup required because of smoke and water impact, Murray High School will be transitioning to remote learning next week (Feb. 23rd-Feb 27th). More information will be provided this afternoon. The decisions made are in coordination with both Murray City School District the restoration and cleanup company that has begun the process to ensure a safe environment for our staff and students to return.
If your student left a backpack, cell phone or other personal item, those items will be available for pickup today, from 1:00pm-3:30pm, in the Band Room. Please enter the Band Room from the outside door. No entrance will be allowed into the building. If you do not pick these item up today, they will be available Monday, February 23rd, from 8:00am-10:00am.
Thank you for understanding that this situation is extremely fluid. As more updates become available we will send those out to all of you.

A fire was reported this morning at Murray High School near the woodshop. Students were evacuated to safe areas on the campus. The fire was extinguished by emergency responders from Murray Fire Department and Unified Fire Department. However, students are dismissed from school for the day. Parents are invited to pick up their student on Hillcrest Drive which is just to the west of the football field.
Students are also being directed to not return to the campus until emergency response officials can provide an all-clear for people to safely return. We thank our Murray and area emergency responders for their swift and professional response today.
