Last night, Murray Education Foundation (MEF) and Murray City School District (MCSD) honored this year’s recipients of the Pinnacle Awards. They were:

Attendees were greeted with a social hour featuring the Murray High School String Quartet. The program included remarks from MEF Chair Blake Voorhees, MCSD Superintendent Jennifer Covington, and Mayor Brett Hales, who served as the Emcee. Some entertainment numbers were performed by students Lauren Bird and Genevieve Myers.
Students and teachers delivered brief remarks about each recipient before Pinnacle winners were presented with their awards and made their own remarks. This year, MEF also honored three special individuals who have worked behind the scenes for the organization for many years and will be retiring. Executive Direct Jeanne Habel will be retiring in June, following 25 years of transforming service. Similarly, long-time board members Sheila Johnson and AnnMarie Nielson are also concluding their many years of service on the MEF Board (Nielson will also be retiring from MCSD).
Since 2004, the Murray community (families, citizens, educators, and more) has nominated MCSD educators, personnel, volunteers, and administrators to receive the Pinnacle Award. Each year hundreds of nominations are reviewed by the MEF Selection Committee, which chooses the best of the best.
Nominations are surprise-announced by visiting each individual at their school. From there, they are invited to attend a special gala in their honor in March.
