With the unprecedented heat wave in Utah, it’s important to know our Athletic Department and coaches have noted and made adjustments.

According to Athletic Director Brady Smith, for practices and home games, coaches and his department use a Kestrel Heat Stress device to check conditions (including field-level temperatures) before athletes hit the field. This video below shows how that works:

Additionally, Brady says coaches provide ice towels, additional water breaks, and have shortened practices. If an athlete becomes overheated, the department has a cold immersion tub to stop the progression of heat stroke or exhaustion. And as always, we have close contact with our local Murray emergency responders.

Protecting our athletes and coaches from extreme conditions and injuries is important at Murray. We will continue to monitor temperatures and make adjustments, including real-time to ensure everyone is safe.
