daydreaming studentThe Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is recruiting stakeholders from all education sectors to participate in focus groups as part of a re-design consideration of the state’s graduation requirements for K-12 education. This includes educators, students, parents, employers, policymakers, and other community members.

Participants will engage in a series of discussions to better understand how Utah students can achieve the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of Utah’s Portrait of a Graduate program.  This includes the review of different characteristics of innovative graduation models and identifying how Utah might apply them.

They will explore and make observations about those models and share ideas that are generated from them.  These insights will lead to a graduation working group to develop potential models for future consideration.

The focus groups will be provided with a choice of in-person or virtual engagement and different schedules and intervals to optimize access and participation.  They will be held in October and November in two-hour stints.

USBE is highly engaged in this process and is hopeful for strong interest and participation as it looks to share the future of Utah’s education system.
