student in class we are hereMurray City School District is spearheading an initiative to strengthen student attendance in the 2023-24 school year. “We Are Here” is a call to action that reminds students and parents that with attendance comes engagement, empowerment, and a profound unleashing of potential.

Studies have forever demonstrated the value and impact of showing up. This, of course, transcends education and is a simple but powerful life lesson that is both sensible and attainable for everyone.

The Utah State Legislature has acknowledged the attendance challenge (arguably crisis) in Utah – defining 10% truancy, or two days per month, as chronically absent. Schools in other states have also experienced a rise in poor attendance and easily trace it to a myriad of academic, behavioral, and other learning barriers.

The We Are Here awareness campaign will drive home important messages to parents and students throughout the year that we want all students to feel welcome at school. Our teachers and administrators will be actively promoting this in outward expressions, but also in an unmistakable inward feeling. Students need to both hear and feel cared about.

The fact is, Murray loves our students and their families. We want them to have positive experiences while learning. Not every day is perfect, and challenges are everywhere, but we will THRIVE together when we ARE together. Join us as we seek to prove why we are Murray through this incredibly important We Are Here effort to improve student attendance.
